Maurício Dias e Walter Riedweg conheci por telefone, durante a pesquisa para a exposição “Suíços do Brasil”. Um é carioca, o outro suíço, com um pouco de sotaque. Juntos, formam uma dupla sensacional na videoarte. Assinam como Dias e Riedweg e são conhecidos também como MauWal.

Moram no Rio de Janeiro e hospedam viajantes em Santa Teresa, na Villa Laurinda. As diárias não são exatamente para mochileiros, mas imagino que seja interessante ficar no casarão de 1888. Soube de sua existência por email, que reproduzo (em inglês mesmo).

Resumindo, os artistas transformaram o ateliê, uma casa que chamaram de Villa Laurinda em referência a uma incentivadora das artes do início do século 20, em hospedaria/pousada/bed and breakfast.

“It’s been a while since we’ve turned our studio-house in Santa Teresa into a guest-house & studio. In fact, after some renovation works, several adaptations and a few adjustments along this year, we’ve now come to the point of presenting the project, which we call “Villa Laurinda” in reference to the great lady of art patronate in Rio de Janeiro in the beginning of the 20th century – after all, our beautiful house is located itself at rua Laurinda Santos Lobo 98. The guest house project shall expand into an artists’ and intelectual’s international exchange venue in few years, but currently, to start with, it is just a small guest house in an idyllic refuge sited in an original Victorian house of the 19th century with a big swimming pool surrounded by 2000m2 gardens, right in the middle of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
